President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a proclamation imposing a full entry ban on citizens from 12 countries, citing national security concerns.
According to the proclamation, nationals from the unnamed 12 countries will be completely barred from entering the United States. In addition, the directive imposes partial travel restrictions on citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
The order is scheduled to take effect on June 9, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EDT (5:01 a.m. Nigerian time).
President Trump defended the decision as a necessary measure to protect the country from “foreign terrorists” and other perceived security threats.
