The Rivers State Local Government Elections Petition Tribunal has dismissed a petition challenging the election of Chief Brain Gokpa as chairman of Eleme Local Government Area. Delivering the judgment, Tribunal Chairman Betty Sunny-Hart ruled that the petitioners failed to substantiate their claims beyond a reasonable doubt.
The tribunal rejected all reliefs sought by the petitioners, reaffirming Chief Gokpa’s victory in the October 5, 2024, local government elections.
Reacting to the judgment, Chief Gokpa’s counsel, Bar. Reuben E. Wanogho, described the ruling as fair and commended the tribunal for upholding his client’s mandate. He emphasized that the verdict ensures stability in governance and solidifies Chief Gokpa’s position as the duly elected chairman.
