A train on Monday collided with a police vehicle at Woji Road, Rumueorolu, Port Harcourt, leaving the officer severely injured.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when the police car drove one-way onto the train track despite the train’s loud horn and warnings from a representative of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), who was on the ground to control pedestrians and commuters.
The train reportedly dragged the vehicle for a distance of about ten NEPA poles before coming to a stop. The officer, who sustained severe injuries and was bleeding from several parts of the body, was rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for motorists to obey traffic regulations and exercise extreme caution when approaching railway crossings.
