Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Arch. Tonye Cole says the people of Ogoni deserve an apology from Nigeria for the neglect of their land in the face of widespread oil devastation of the land and livelihoods.
Cole made the appeal during his campaign rally in Khana local government area of Rivers State yesterday.
According to him, the Ogonis deserve much more than what they are getting adding that he has all the answers to their problem.
Part of his statement reads,
This land deserves much more than what it is getting, Ogoni deserves more than what it is getting. I am standing here today to tell you, that you will get everything that you deserve.
“I’m the person who will tell you I know it all. I’m not the person who will lie to you that I have all the answers to our problems. But one thing I know, Ogonis deserve apology from Nigeria for the ill-treatment meted to you. That I know so well.
God has given me opportunity to lead this land, opportunity to be governor of Rivers state. In that capacity I believe you need to be treated better. And I ask that Ogoniland will forgive Nigeria for the way Nigeria has treated you.
