The Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has affirmed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, aligning with the position of the party’s National Chairman.
Bwala acknowledged the role of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in President Tinubu’s cabinet but insisted that Wike cannot speak for the APC in Rivers State as he is not a member of the party. He noted that while Wike may be a leader within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the leadership of the APC in Rivers rests with Governor Fubara.
According to Bwala, President Tinubu is a firm believer in the rule of law and respects the party structure, stressing that the President stands by the position of the APC National Chairman on the Rivers leadership question.
Responding to claims that Wike has delivered more than most cabinet members, Bwala said performance should be viewed in the context of access to resources and authority. He argued that if others were given similar resources and unfettered access, they could achieve even more, adding that Wike has been adequately compensated for his role.
“The President believes in compensating people,” Bwala said, adding that such compensation would never come at the expense of Nigeria’s interests. He explained that President Tinubu allows latitude and privilege but draws a clear line when actions conflict with what is right.
On the issue of impeachment threats against Governor Fubara, Bwala stated that court processes are already in place to halt any such move. He emphasised that the APC’s position is clear: no one should obstruct Fubara from governing Rivers State.
“The party sticks with the leaders in their respective states,” Bwala said, stressing that Governor Fubara should be allowed to carry out his constitutional duties without interference.
