Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that Nigerians are disillusioned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and are searching for credible political alternatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on AriseTV PrimeTime with Charles Aniagolu on Monday night, El-Rufai cited internal polls showing a 91% disapproval rating for the current administration, describing it as the worst in Nigeria’s history.
“Nigerians are tired of the APC, we know that. What they want now is unity among credible figures—people who are ready to set aside differences and ambitions to offer a viable alternative to this failure of a government,” he said.
Responding to Aniagolu’s suggestion that political heavyweights such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi may find it difficult to put aside personal ambitions, El-Rufai distanced himself from any political aspiration.
“Big names do not necessarily mean big ambitions,” he said. “I have no ambition. At 65, I should be retiring. But having played a role in the emergence of Bola Tinubu as President—a move I now regret—I feel obligated to help reverse what I believe is a dangerous trajectory for Nigeria.”
El-Rufai’s remarks are expected to further fuel ongoing speculation about the formation of a political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
