Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared he will remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while serving under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin published Saturday, Wike dismissed speculation that he might defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that he is not driven by fear and will not abandon the political party he helped build.
“I can’t do that, I’m not afraid. How can I leave the house I built? It’s those trying to destroy it that should leave, not me,” he said.
Wike criticized members of the PDP from the South-East for issuing threats despite having little political influence. He specifically mentioned former governors Achike Udenwa and Sam Egwu, accusing them of lacking electoral strength and party contributions.
“You didn’t even give your party three percent of the vote, yet you’re threatening. Meanwhile, those of us who produced governors and National Assembly members haven’t threatened anyone,” Wike stated.
He also accused party leaders of dishonesty over zoning arrangements, warning that such conduct would ultimately lead to the party’s downfall.
