President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the 2026 statutory budget of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to the Nigerian Senate for consideration and approval.
The budget proposal was formally transmitted through a letter read during plenary on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as lawmakers resumed sitting after a three-week recess that allowed committees to carry out budget defence sessions.
Under Nigeria’s constitutional arrangement, the National Assembly holds legislative authority over the Federal Capital Territory, making it responsible for reviewing and approving the territory’s annual budget.
In the letter read before senators, Tinubu cited the constitutional provision backing the submission, stating that Section 299 of the Constitution vests legislative powers over the Federal Capital Territory in the National Assembly, thereby requiring the Senate’s consideration of the budget proposal.
