President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Governing Council and Board of Trustees of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYREP).
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Minister of Environment will serve as Chairman of the Governing Council. Other members include Loanyie Barituka Victor, representing environmental NGOs; Bright Onyebuchi Jacob and Henry Obiabure, representing Niger Delta communities; and Professor Barinedum Michael Nwibere alongside Barrister Baride Abdul Gwezia, representing the Ogoni community.
The nine oil-producing states will be represented by Gideon Onyebuwa Melfor and Dr Ibikunle Omotehinse. Alternate members for Ogoniland are Rev. Canon Dr Abraham Olungwe, who was reappointed, and Engr. Maeba Power Ekpobari. Joseph Akedesuo and Beauty Warejuowei will serve as alternate members for the Niger Delta.
On the reconstituted Board of Trustees, Emmanuel Nwiika Deeyah retains his position as chairman. Other members include Fred Mbombo Igwe and Dr Fred Barivule Kpakol for Ogoni communities, Mrs Dorcas Amos for other Niger Delta communities, and Chief Jide Damazio, who was reappointed to represent environmental NGOs.
