President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering peace, justice, and sustainable development in Ogoniland during a meeting with Ogoni leaders at the State House in Abuja.
The President urged the Ogoni people to prioritize unity and reconciliation, emphasizing the importance of moving beyond historical grievances to achieve progress and environmental restoration.
According to him, “we cannot rewrite history but can correct past anomalies, stressing that healing is impossible if we remain angry.”
He tasked the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu with leading the negotiations, directing ministers, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and the Rivers State Government to collaborate with Ribadu’s office in implementing the administration’s mandate.
Tinubu commended the Ogoni delegation for embracing dialogue and stressed the need for collective effort to bring peace and development to the region.
The meeting marks a significant step toward addressing the region’s social, economic, and environmental issues.
