President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terror attacks in Maiduguri, extending condolences to the families of those killed and sympathising with the injured.
In a State House statement issued on Tuesday, the President described the incidents as “profoundly upsetting,” assuring the people of Borno State of the Federal Government’s solidarity during the difficult period.
Tinubu said the attacks were “desperate and frantic attempts” by terrorist groups seeking to instil fear, stressing that such actions indicate increased pressure on them by Nigerian security forces.
“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” the President stated.
He commended the bravery of Nigerian troops for successfully repelling coordinated assaults on military positions in the state, noting that the attackers would ultimately be subdued by the combined efforts of the military and civilian task forces.
The President also disclosed that he recently approved additional equipment and operational support for security agencies following a high-level meeting with security and intelligence chiefs. According to him, the directive is already being implemented to strengthen ongoing operations.
Tinubu further ordered security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation, while directing emergency response agencies to ensure proper medical care for the injured.
Reaffirming his administration’s stance, the President declared that terrorists would find no safe haven anywhere in Nigeria.
“We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” he said.
