President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that the creation of state police will soon become a reality as part of efforts to strengthen security across the country.
The president made the remark on Thursday night while addressing governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s caucus meeting at the State House, Abuja.
Tinubu noted that discussions around state policing have gained momentum, stressing that decentralising security architecture would enhance effective policing and rapid response to security challenges at the grassroots.
He revealed that he recently briefed leaders from the United States and Europe on Nigeria’s plans to establish state police, describing the initiative as a critical step toward improving internal security and safeguarding lives and property.
According to the president, the federal government remains committed to working with state governments and relevant stakeholders to address constitutional and legislative requirements necessary for the implementation of state police.
He added that strengthening security remains a top priority of his administration, as peace and stability are essential for economic growth and national development.
