President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday, August 14, depart Abuja for official visits to Japan and Brazil, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In Japan, the President will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) scheduled for August 20–22 in Yokohama. The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, will address Africa’s economic transformation, improved business climate, and institutional reforms through private investment and innovation, as well as the promotion of peace, stability, and human security.
Alongside attending plenary sessions, Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral talks and engage with chief executives of Japanese firms with investments in Nigeria. Initiated by Japan in 1993 and co-hosted by the United Nations, African Union Commission, UNDP, and World Bank, TICAD is a triennial forum alternating between Africa and Japan. The last edition was held in Tunisia in 2022.
Following TICAD9, Tinubu will travel to Brasilia for a two-day state visit from August 24–25 at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. His engagements in Brazil will include bilateral discussions, a business forum with Brazilian investors, and the signing of cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding.
The President will be accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials.
