President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent attack in Plateau State that claimed more than 40 lives, urging Governor Caleb Mutfwang to take decisive steps toward resolving the underlying communal tensions fueling the violence.
In a statement issued on April 14 by presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the killings and extended condolences to the victims’ families, the state government, and the people of Plateau. He emphasized the need for unity beyond ethnic and religious divides and called on local leaders to end the cycle of reprisal attacks.
“The ongoing violence must cease,” Tinubu said, noting that he has directed security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
While addressing the immediate security concerns, the president also stressed the importance of political will in tackling the deep-rooted causes of the decades-long conflict. “We can no longer ignore the underlying issues. It is time to tackle them fairly and find a lasting solution,” he said.
Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Plateau State in promoting dialogue, fostering social cohesion, and ensuring accountability to achieve long-term peace.
