President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned recent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing them as “barbaric and cowardly,” and assuring that perpetrators will be brought to justice.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President decried the killing of residents in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, as well as the attack in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted.
Tinubu described the incidents as an affront to Nigeria’s values, warning that such acts of violence would not go unpunished.
“Anyone who sneaks under the cover of night to kill defenceless citizens, as seen in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward,” the President said, adding that attacks on soft targets are often aimed at triggering reprisals and escalating violence.
The President directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible for the attacks, as well as individuals spreading misinformation capable of inflaming tensions. He also cautioned sections of the media against prematurely attributing the violence to religious motives.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace, Tinubu urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies and comply with evacuation and relocation directives where necessary. He also welcomed the safe return of two victims from the Kaduna incident.
“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence. All remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately,” he said.
The President commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for efforts to contain the situation in Jos, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for supporting rescue operations.
Tinubu expressed condolences to families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery, noting that the federal government is acquiring advanced equipment to strengthen the capacity of security agencies to combat criminal activities nationwide.
