Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for prioritizing the Ogoni cleanup and development efforts.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Monday during a visit by Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal and Regional Development Minister Abubakar Momoh, Fubara reaffirmed the state’s commitment to working with the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) to address environmental and developmental challenges in Ogoniland.
The governor stressed the need for community involvement in federal projects, warning that excluding locals could lead to resistance and sabotage. He also highlighted progress in healthcare and education, announcing the upcoming inauguration of the Bori Zonal Hospital to ease pressure on the state’s teaching hospital.
Minister Abbas acknowledged past challenges in project acceptance but assured that the administration is now engaging communities to ensure success. He revealed that a major water project would be inaugurated Tuesday, with similar projects completed earlier.
