President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that his administration’s infrastructure drive and economic reforms are focused on improving the well-being and prosperity of Nigerians, declaring that “today’s foundation is for tomorrow’s prosperity.”
The President made the remarks on Saturday in Iperu during the inauguration of the Gateway Cargo International Airport, a project executed by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun. He also launched two aircraft acquired by the state-owned Gateway Airline.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu said the development of critical infrastructure reflects the government’s confidence in the country’s future. He noted that the airport is powered by an independent energy source, highlighting ongoing investments in the energy sector.
“Development must touch every level. I am particularly pleased with the mobility, the security, and the agricultural initiatives being fulfilled today,” the President said, after commissioning additional projects including 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles, and tractors.
The President commended Nigerians for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress, stating that recent economic reforms have increased resources available to state governments.
He praised governors for effectively utilising these resources and lauded Abiodun’s leadership for aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu also described the rollout of electric bikes as a forward-looking response to modern transportation needs, stressing the importance of adopting cleaner and more efficient technologies.
The President further applauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for reforms aimed at improving ease of doing business and staff welfare. During the visit, Tinubu inaugurated a Customs Hub comprising barracks, a training college, a warehouse, and a hospital.
In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as historic and symbolic of federal support for sub-national development. He credited Tinubu’s economic policies—including foreign exchange unification, fuel subsidy removal, and public finance reforms—with restoring investor confidence and promoting sustainable growth.
Abiodun also highlighted key federal initiatives such as the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Programme, NELFUND, rail modernisation, and major road projects including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Badagry-Sokoto Highway.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Tinubu’s democratic credentials, noting that the National Assembly remains central to sustaining democracy. He urged the President to decentralise the Transmission Company of Nigeria to improve power supply nationwide.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also praised Tinubu’s leadership, reflecting on the developmental progress of Ogun State since its creation 50 years ago.
Other dignitaries at the event included Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, Minister of Communications Bosun Tijani, and Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso, alongside several state governors and traditional rulers.
