Fomer Kaduna State governor has spoken publicly for the first time since leaving office, granting an exclusive interview to ARISE News on Monday.
During the interview, he addressed comments suggesting he had become a critic of the current administration, explaining that his remarks during a recent panel discussion on Nigeria’s democracy were focused on the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He revealed that President Bola Tinubu had “publicly begged” him to serve in the administration, but he declined, insisting that he had no interest in seeking personal gain.
According to him, he made it clear from the onset that although he supported President Tinubu, he did not want any position, noting that politics in Nigeria is often driven by personal benefit.
The former governor stressed that he is “self-made,” had established himself financially before joining public service, and therefore had no need for political compensation. He added that after completing his eight-year tenure in Kaduna, he felt exhausted and needed a break to focus on his private plans.
