Senator Ali Ndume has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reneged on a promise to work with former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, after the 2023 presidential elections.
Ndume, who served as Director-General of Amaechi’s campaign during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, made the disclosure during an interview on Arise News. He stated that shortly after Tinubu’s victory, the President, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the current Minister of Defence approached him to arrange a meeting with Amaechi, signaling a willingness to reconcile and collaborate.
“There was a genuine effort to reconnect,” Ndume said. “They wanted me to facilitate a meeting between Tinubu and Amaechi, showing interest in working together.” However, he added that the planned meeting never materialized, and subsequent efforts fizzled out.
Ndume suggested that Tinubu’s initial gestures were not backed by any concrete action, resulting in Amaechi being sidelined from the current administration. He described the fallout as a quiet but clear political snub, despite Amaechi’s earlier support for the APC.
According to Ndume, Amaechi is now aligning with a growing political coalition preparing to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing worsening economic conditions and what critics describe as governance failures.
The revelation underscores deepening rifts within the ruling APC and adds to the rising political tension as the country edges closer to the next general election.
