The Rivers State Chapter of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, MWAN, has called for support to reduce all forms of gender based violence in the state.
President of the Association, Amosivi Maduka made the call as the World marks 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.
She said the association has continued to champion activities to prevent and respond to gender based violence across the state.
She also said girls will be trained as advocates of Gender Based Violence and that their mandate is to put an end to rape, physical abuse and harassment in Rivers State.
Mrs Maduka, explained that as part of activity to mark the 16 days activism, a multi-stakeholder observatory was set up to identify and respond to incidents on violence against women and girls.
She added that the time to end physical violence, rape on campuses, intimate partner violence and all forms of gender violence is now.
This year’s theme is Orange the World – End Violence Against Women Now.
