The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle during a live broadcast.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and triggered widespread public concern and condemnation.
The command said Peller’s actions posed a grave danger to public safety, prompting immediate police intervention. The viral footage captured the influencer engaging in dangerous driving that resulted in a serious crash while he was livestreaming, thereby putting his own life and that of other road users at risk.
Police described the conduct as highly irresponsible and potentially fatal, noting that such behaviour amounts to an attempt to endanger lives on public roads.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive probe. The police said findings from the investigation will be made public, after which the suspect will be charged in court in line with applicable laws.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, cautioned social media influencers and the public against using online platforms to glorify or promote unlawful and dangerous acts, stressing that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
