Fear has gripped residents of Diobu, Port Harcourt, following the killing of three individuals on Wednesday in a renewed wave of cult-related violence. The latest incident brings the total number of deaths to five since clashes began on Tuesday.
Local sources say the violence stems from a rivalry between suspected members of the “Dey Gbam” cult group operating in the area.
According to a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Nanka Street was shot dead while on duty. A woman was also killed by a stray bullet at Abba Street, and another suspected cultist was gunned down in the neighborhood.
He said cultists now roam the area with sophisticated weapons looking for opponents to kill.
The ongoing violence has significantly disrupted daily life, with residents abandoning the streets by 6:00 p.m. each evening due to fear of further attacks. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
