As many already know (except for the unconverted, of course), the 14th day of February is annually recognised as Valentine’s Day. The day is dedicated to the celebration and expression of love. It is also a day, when many hearts are either uplifted or literally shattered owing to failed expectations.
To mark this day, the Elan team reached out to 250 men and women between the ages of 18 and 55. We asked them a basic question: Is Valentine’s Day important to you? If Yes, why?
Although it is often taken for granted that Valentine’s Day is important (given the number of events planned on and around the said day, and the media conversations on the subject), only 30% of our population admitted the day is significant.
The 30% described Valentine’s Day as a day to “bond”, “celebrate love”, “spend time with a loved one”, “exchange gifts”, “get intimate”, and as a day for couples/partners to “mark their territory”.
The rest of our population (mostly made up of men) said they do not particularly find the day significant as love ought to be celebrated daily, not annually.
The responses to our key questions indicates that although opinions differ on whether or not Valentine’s Day ought to be celebrated, everyone is open to the celebration of love.
At Elanhub, we believe love ought to be celebrated daily including Valentine’s Day. For those who consider the day important and desire to celebrate, we recommend the following:
- If you are single, Valentine’s Day is a great day to attend an event in Church or engage in some fun-loving activity. You may get to meet your “The ONE” in the process. Don’t be shy about mingling responsibly.
- If you are married, celebrate with your partner. If you are in the same location, make a reservation at a nice restaurant (if COVID-19 restrictions in your area permits). If for some reason you can’t be together, celebrate virtually.
- If you are married and have children, incorporate them in your celebration.
- Surprise your partner and loved ones with well thought-out presents. Gone are the days of singlets and panties. What does your partner really need? Ask and then, get creative with the presentation.
- Make an effort to Dress for the Occasion. Valentine’s Day offers an opportunity to pull out from the closet, lovely lingerie, clothes and shoes you have left unworn.
- MARK YOUR TERRITORY – Valentine’s Day is a great day to measure if you are The One (don’t mind those who claim it is not). While repeatedly checking on your partner and calling countless number of times may seem weird, on this day, CALL, CHECK, in fact, DOUBLE CHECK. Folks can be tricky!
- Listen to Love Songs. Here are our Top 10 love songs this Valentine.
- Kick start your Valentine’s party with Faze’s Valentine’s Day.
