PORT HARCOURT — A women’s empowerment programme in Port Harcourt descended into chaos on Monday after a group of Rivers women staged a walkout during an event sponsored by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The programme, held at the EUI Centre and organised to distribute empowerment items to 500 women, was disrupted when Mrs. Theresa Ibas, wife of the Sole Administrator, was called to speak on behalf of the First Lady.
Eyewitnesses reported that tensions escalated immediately after her name was announced, prompting a dramatic exit by several women clad in uniform attire. The protest drew the attention of security personnel and event officials.
Sources suggest the walkout is linked to ongoing political tensions in Rivers State. The women continued chanting outside the venue, signaling their defiance and dissatisfaction with the event’s proceedings.
