The immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has said that technology, while helpful, cannot single-handedly eliminate the flaws undermining the credibility of Nigeria’s elections.
Prof. Yakubu made this assertion in his newly released book titled “Election Management in Nigeria: 2015–2025,” a 200-page publication that chronicles INEC’s operations, achievements, and challenges during his two-term tenure from 2015 to 2025.
He described the book as the first and most comprehensive account of the commission’s evolution over the past decade, capturing key milestones, lessons, and difficulties encountered under his leadership.
Reflecting on the period, Yakubu said, “The decade between 2015 – 2025 has been one of the most momentous in the history of the management of elections in Nigeria.”
He further acknowledged that although technological innovations have significantly improved electoral processes, they are not a cure-all for the systemic issues that continue to affect election credibility in the country.
