A tragic accident occurred Tuesday night along Ikwerre Road, near the Mile 3 Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when a petroleum tanker crushed a pedestrian to death.
The victim, identified by locals as Egwu, was reportedly attempting to cross the road when he was struck by the tanker.
An eyewitness, said that the tanker driver fled the scene immediately after realizing he had hit someone. His identity remains unknown as of press time.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Nkpolu Police Division was said to have quickly deployed officers to the scene to secure the vehicle and prevent an angry mob from setting it ablaze.
Authorities have since towed the tanker to the police station, while the victim’s body has been deposited in an undisclosed mortuary.
