Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and leadership disagreements within the party.
Tambuwal, who currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, announced his resignation in a letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
In the letter, the former governor of Sokoto State said the ongoing divisions and conflicts within the party had made it increasingly difficult for him to continue his active participation and commitment as a member.
According to him, the persistent internal crisis and leadership disagreements at various levels have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.
“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from today,” he stated in the letter.
Tambuwal added that the internal conflicts within the party had unfortunately eroded the cohesion that previously characterized the PDP.
He asked the party leadership to accept the letter as his formal notice of resignation from the party.
Tambuwal who served as governor of Sokoto State from 2015 to 2023 revealed that he will be joining the ADC.
