Special Adviser to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, Mr. Julius Bokoru, has dismissed as false and mischievous reports claiming that the former Bayelsa State governor has fled the country.
In a statement titled “False Reports About Timipre Sylva: Setting the Record Straight,” Bokoru said the rumours emerged following a raid on Sylva’s Abuja residence by persons believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters.
According to him, the incident, which caused significant damage to the property, occurred while Sylva and his wife, Her Excellency Alanyingi Sylva, were both outside the country.
He explained that Sylva was in the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up and was scheduled to travel to Malaysia for a professional conference when the reports began circulating.
Bokoru stated that despite efforts, he has been unable to determine the reasons or authorisation behind the operation, noting that the officers involved did not provide any explanation during or after the raid.
He further clarified that Sylva has no connection whatsoever to any alleged coup plot, stressing that the Defence Headquarters had already refuted such claims.
“Chief Timipre Sylva, CON, is a thoroughbred democrat whose entire political career has been defined by his unwavering belief in democratic processes and institutions,” Bokoru stated.
