Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, has reacted to the declaration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he is wanted over alleged money laundering.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Julius Bokoru, Sylva maintained that his hands are clean and that he will appear before the anti-graft agency as a law-abiding citizen once he concludes his medical check-up in the United Kingdom.
Sylva alleged that some individuals were intimidated by his profile and were attempting to tarnish his reputation through orchestrated campaigns.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday took to social media to announce, quite unceremoniously, that it had declared Chief Timipre Sylva wanted. No formal communication was extended to him, no established protocol observed—only a sudden digital proclamation designed, it would seem, to inflame public sentiment and manufacture yet another episode of orchestrated hostility,” the statement read in part.
The former minister reiterated that he has not diverted any public funds and remains committed to clearing his name through lawful means.
