A Human Rights Group, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has hailed the management of Ignatius Ajuru University over the suspension of one of its lecturers, Princewill Chikakopbi for sexually harassing a female student.
Mr Chikakopbi, who was until his suspension, the Head of Department of Dental Surgery Technician, was found guilty of sexually harassing a female student who had accused him of rape by a panel set up to investigate the matter.
A female student had accused the lecturer of raping her in his office few months ago.
A member of the group, Ike Alexander while reacting to the lecturer’s suspension commended the school for revealing the findings of the panel.
He said the punishment meted out to the lecturer would deter others and boost the morale of victims of sexual harassment and rape to speak up.
Provost of the institution, Prof. Franklin Nlerum had in a statement yesterday, announced the suspension of Mr. Chikakopbi for three months with half salary.
