Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated he is not eager to reclaim his position amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Speaking at a service of songs in honour of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark, organised by the Rivers Elders Forum on Sunday, Fubara distanced himself from comments made by speakers who criticised his suspension and addressed him as “Governor.” He described the remarks as personal views, stressing they do not promote peace.
“Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit has already left there,” Fubara said, hinting at a possible resignation from the political struggle.
He further criticised the confrontational stance of some supporters, warning that their actions—though well-meaning—had worsened his situation. Urging for a more strategic approach, Fubara stated, “Not everything is by oshogbe,” referring to aggressive tactics.
Fubara’s comments come amid mounting pressure and political tension surrounding his suspension from office.
