Suspected thugs have reportedly set ablaze the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima, Rivers State, ahead of the planned visit of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the day at the ADC secretariat located in Ubima, the hometown of Amaechi. The extent of damage caused by the fire was yet to be officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Amaechi is expected in Rivers State to formally register as a member of the ADC in his hometown, Ubima.
The former minister is scheduled to arrive at the Port Harcourt International Airport this morning. From the airport, the delegation is expected to proceed to Ubima for the registration exercise.
After the event in Ubima, the team is expected to move to the ADC state secretariat located on Woji Road in the Government Reserved Area of Port Harcourt, which previously served as the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the suspected arson attack on the ADC secretariat.
