A suspected thief who claimed to be a member of a popular Pentecostal church, has been apprehended by residents of a compound at Eliozu while trying to cart away valuables.
The man, who pleaded for mercy was severely beaten after some items were found on him.
He explained that it was hunger and hardship that led him to the crime, and that he has three kids who have been starving for days.
Despite promises not to indulge in the act again, injuries were inflicted on him with sticks by residents of the compound.
One of the residents, in a chat with us, said robbers have been terrorizing the area, stealing people’s valuables.
He said the man will be handed over to the police for prosecution and that they would ensure Justice is served.
