Zalau village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State was thrown into panic after suspected bandits killed a local community leader and businessman, Alhaji Muhammad Bakoshi, during a night raid.
The attackers also abducted one of his wives, Hannatu Muhammad, during the assault on his residence.
A resident, Shamsuddeen Hashimu Zalawa, told Daily Trust that the gunmen, whose numbers remain unknown, stormed the village around midnight, firing shots into the air and spreading fear among residents.
Hashimu noted that the raid appeared to be a targeted attack, as the assailants went directly to Bakoshi’s home. “They invaded only the businessman’s house, killing him and abducting his wife,” he said.
Alhaji Bakoshi was a prominent businessman who owned a block industry in the community and was actively involved in local security initiatives, particularly among hunters.
