The Supreme Court has reserved its judgment on an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking to nullify the outcome of the local government elections conducted in Rivers State on October 5, 2024.
Representing the APC, senior lawyer Mr. J.B. Daudu (SAN) urged the apex court to overturn the November 21, 2024, decision of the Abuja Court of Appeal, which upheld the validity of the elections.
However, opposing the appeal, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s counsel, Mr. Yusuf Ali (SAN), and the lawyer for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Chief Chris Uche (SAN), both called for the dismissal of the case.
The Court of Appeal had earlier overturned a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from providing the voter register to RSIEC for the elections.
