Former MD of the NDDC, Timi Alaibe’s appeal challenging the emergence of Governor Duoye Diri as the authentic governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 2019 election in Bayelsa State, has been dismissed by the Supreme court.
The court in its ruling Today, dismissed the case on the ground that it was a pre-election matter. Alaibe has been challenging the emergence of Governor Douye Diri, who lost the gubernatorial election to David Lyon of the APC, but was declared winner after the courts had removed Lyon over discrepancies in his running mate’s credentials.
According to reports, Alaibe had earlier lost a similar suit at the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal.
Meanwhile, supporters of the governor have been thrown into wild jubilation following the ruling of the apex court, describing it as victory for the rule of law. Stakeholders in the state have equally called on Alaibe to close ranks with the governor in order to move the state forward.
