Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has climbed to third place in Africa and 26th in the world in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings released on Monday.
The team jumped 12 spots from 38th to 26th following an outstanding performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where they finished third.
Nigeria earned the highest points gain in the latest rankings, adding +79.09, thanks to a strong run in the continental tournament.
Under coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles won six of their seven matches, defeating Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, Algeria, and Egypt, before losing to hosts Morocco in the semi-finals on penalties.
In the African rankings, Nigeria now trails only Senegal—the 2025 AFCON champions ranked 12th globally—and Morocco, who are 8th in the world.
Algeria and Egypt complete the top five African teams in the latest FIFA standings.
