The Sa’ad Abubakar III, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has announced Friday, March 20, 2026, as the official date for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr in Nigeria, following the conclusion of the Ramadan fast.
The declaration followed the non-sighting of the crescent moon, which traditionally signifies the end of Ramadan, across the country.
In a statement released by Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council confirmed that there were no authenticated reports of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent sighting from any part of Nigeria on Wednesday. Consequently, Thursday, March 19, completes the 30-day Ramadan period, with Friday marking the first day of Shawwal.
The Sultan urged Muslims nationwide to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to offer prayers for peace, unity, and sustained development in Nigeria as they celebrate the end of the fasting period.
