Popular Nigerian comedian KO-Baba has called on entertainers and creatives from Port Harcourt to stop disparaging the city when engaging with audiences outside its borders. In a strongly worded statement, KO-Baba criticized the tendency among some industry players to ridicule local talent and downplay the city’s creative progress during interactions in cities like Lagos.
Sharing a personal anecdote, the comedian recounted how a colleague had to shut down another entertainer who attempted to badmouth him and others from Port Harcourt while in Lagos.
KO-Baba emphasized that such actions are not only ungrateful but also detrimental to the growth of the city’s creative industry. He urged performers to use their external platforms to uplift and promote Port Harcourt, encouraging them to bring back opportunities such as sponsorships, collaborations, and partnerships.
“We’ll grow faster, rise higher, and go further if we all do our bit to build this city and its creative industry,” he stated.
The comedian concluded with a call for unity and pride among Port Harcourt’s creative community, urging them to represent the city with the respect it deserves.
