The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has advised the Paramount Ruler of Okochiri Kingdom, King Ateke Tom, to refrain from getting involved in the politics of Rivers State.
Wike gave the admonition on Saturday during a thank-you visit to his supporters in Okrika, where he paid a courtesy visit to the monarch.
According to the former Rivers State governor, traditional rulers are expected to remain neutral and should not participate in partisan politics. He urged King Ateke Tom to allow politicians to handle political affairs without interference.
Wike disclosed that certain political decisions had already been taken, adding that leaders from the area, whom he described as his “children,” would brief the monarch accordingly.
Describing King Ateke Tom as his friend, Wike noted that the political landscape had changed, stressing that things were no longer the way they used to be.
