Human rights activist and political analyst Omoyele Sowore has cautioned Nigerians against embracing the latest threat by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to launch military action in Nigeria under the pretext of protecting Christians.
Sowore noted that while such rhetoric may sound appealing to some, history has repeatedly shown foreign military intervention to be dangerous and destabilizing. He pointed to past U.S. operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria — conflicts that, according to him, left those nations more chaotic than before.
He stressed that Nigerians of all religious backgrounds — Christians, Muslims, animists or the non-religious — should reject any suggestion that bombs or foreign troops could solve the country’s challenges.
“What Nigeria truly needs is not a foreign savior, but legitimate and accountable leadership that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends the corruption and violence that have broken this nation,” Sowore said.
He further argued that President Trump’s posture does not reflect genuine concern for Nigerians of any faith, adding that the country’s deliverance “will never come from abroad, but from within — through real leadership and national renewal.”
Sowore insisted that Nigeria must chart its own path forward, free from foreign interference and failed interventionist agendas.
