The South-South Youths Initiative has formally notified the Rivers State Police Command of its plan to stage a peaceful protest at the Railway Office in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police and signed by the group’s National President, Imeabe Saviour Oscar, the organisation requested security coverage to ensure the safety of lives and property during the demonstration.
According to the group, the protest is aimed at addressing alleged acts of intimidation, harassment, and illegal eviction threats by officials of the Nigerian Railway Property Management Company and the Nigerian Railway Corporation. Two individuals specifically named in the complaint are Mr. Ochima and Mr. Ifeanyi, alongside other unidentified accomplices.
The group claims that these officials have unlawfully targeted long-term residents of railway quarters, many of whom are law-abiding citizens, violating their rights and creating tension within the community.
“We are calling for immediate intervention by the relevant authorities to investigate these allegations and hold those responsible accountable,” the letter stated.
The protest is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Railway Office premises on Station Road, Port Harcourt. The group said it has made internal arrangements to ensure order among participants but is relying on the police to provide uniformed officers to prevent any breach of peace.
The South-South Youths Initiative emphasized that the protest will be entirely peaceful and is intended to draw attention to perceived injustices and promote the rule of law.
