Abuja, March 20, 2025 – In response to escalating security concerns in Rivers State, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, has intensified efforts to protect lives, property, and public infrastructure.
Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, law enforcement agencies have been on high alert, monitoring threats to public order. He said the crisis, which has persisted for 22 months, has now reached a critical point, prompting swift intervention to prevent a total breakdown of law and order with potential national security implications.
According to him, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and resources to the state to reinforce security. The NPF assures residents that legal avenues remain available for those seeking redress, warning that any attempt to exploit the situation through unlawful protests or activities will be met with decisive action.
Citizens are urged to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activity. The police reaffirm their commitment to maintaining peace and stability, cautioning individuals or groups with criminal intent to steer clear of Rivers State. Security forces stand ready to counter any threats to public safety.
