The manager of Dogger Boat Owners Association at the Bonny Water Front in Port Harcourt, Isaiah Emmanuel, has called on the military authorities to investigate the alleged shooting of a local boat travelling to Bonny from Port Harcourt, by a military helicopter on Thursday.
Emmanuel, in a chat with journalists yesterday, said the incident was shocking, as the boat was not carrying any illegal product.
He said the local wooden boat, which had four occupants, including the operator, was loaded with foodstuffs.
“We didn’t carry any illegal product; it was just foodstuffs egg, garri, beans and perishable items that we convey to Bonny. So, I don’t know the reason behind the attack,” he said.
Meanwhile of one the victims of the attack, Awwal Rufai, said they were trying to fix their bad engine, when the helicopter opened fire on them after hovering around the area three.
He noted that no life was lost but they sustained severe gunshot wounds.
