Seven persons have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack on a mining site in Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred on Wednesday night, also left several others injured.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Artisanal Mining, Emmanuel Solomon, said he had been briefed on the development.
“I have just been informed about the attack in Kuru community which happened last night. Seven people were killed,” Solomon said, adding that he was heading to the area to assess the situation firsthand.
Authorities are yet to release further details as investigations continue.
