The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of seven members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in a lone road crash involving an NUJ bus in Gombe State.
The accident occurred on Monday evening while the journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony in the Gombe South Senatorial District.
The victims were part of a delegation that had travelled to celebrate a colleague, an employee of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), who was getting married.
Confirming the incident in a telephone interview, the Gombe State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Samson Kaura, said 11 persons were involved in the crash.
According to him, seven journalists died instantly, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to medical facilities for treatment.
Kaura added that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
