The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced plans to appeal the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip the country of the 2025 AFCON title and award it to Morocco.
The CAF Appeals Board ruled on Tuesday that Senegal forfeited the final after several players left the pitch for the dressing room in protest of a referee’s decision. The board ruled that the team had violated Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations by staging the walkout.
The decision followed Morocco’s appeal against an earlier ruling by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, which had rejected its request to overturn the match outcome. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Senegalese FA criticised the Appeals Board’s verdict, stating that it “discredits African football”.
The federation said it would “initiate an appeal as soon as possible before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne”.
“The Senegalese Football Federation denounces this unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable decision, which discredits African football.”
“To defend its rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the federation will initiate an appeal as soon as possible before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
“The FSF reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the values of integrity and sporting justice and will keep the public informed of developments in this matter,” the statement read.
