The Nigerian Senate has announced the screening of newly appointed service chiefs to hold on Wednesday, October 29, reversing its previous plan to hold the exercise next week.
The Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, who announced the update shortly after he read a letter from President Bola Tinubu requesting confirmation of the nominees, explained that the screening rescheduling was to allow the military chiefs to begin their duties without delay.
“President Bola Tinubu had called on the Senate to accelerate the confirmation process of General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff; and Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence in order to maintain continuity and ensure effective coordination of the country’s security framework”, he said
