The Nigerian Senate has constituted a 19-member committee to supervise the implementation of the State of Emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the formation of the committee on Tuesday as the lawmakers resumed plenary in Abuja following the Easter and Sallah recess.
The committee will be chaired by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and includes prominent senators such as Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, and Sani Musa.
Others appointed are Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, Rufai Hanga, Ibrahim Lamido, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa). The Clerk of the Senate will also serve alongside the committee.
The committee’s mandate is to ensure effective oversight and coordination of federal interventions during the emergency period in the oil-rich state.
