The Nigerian Senate has Today, passed the sexual harassment bill which prevents lecturers from having or demanding sexual intercourse from students in tertiary institutions.
The bill which was sponsored by Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege since 2019 was passed after third reading during plenary on today.
The Deputy Senate President decided to sponsor the bill after reports of sexual harassment of students by their lecturers across the country.
The bill, which is expected to be assented to by President Buhari, stipulates a minimum of five years and a maximum of 14 years in prison, without an option of a fine, for any lecturer found wanting.
